I think I’m finally ready to start writing here. One of the main things that’s been holding me back, is that I really wanted my blog posting to work through Org mode.. I finally figured that out.
Basically I have a ‘blog.org’ file, just like I have other task lists e.g. ‘work.org’ and ‘personal.org’ etc. In this file I can write or capture ideas for posts in Emacs as TODO/DOING/DONE type headings. I press a few key binds when it’s finished and it exports to markdown, which is capable of being rendered by Hugo into a static website. Now, I know this may seem like a bit of a process to some, but I’m actually much more inclined to write something if it fit’s in to my current workflow. I’m very much in a ‘all my writing starts in org mode’ place, then.. using org-export-dispatch, ox-hugo, latex, I can generate a html, pdf, markdown, docx, depending on what is needed as an output. It totally makes sense to me that my website should work in the same way.
Another factor that’s stopped me from getting started with this is that overwhelming consideration ‘what to actually write about?’. The best thing to do, to get past that is just getting started. I think mostly I’m going to make this a home base where I can post anything and not take it too seriously.. It’ll be Like social media/status updates, short form mostly, some sharing from other places. I get really quite frustrated with actual social media sites, there’s a general feeling of not really belonging, wanting to go off and do my own thing - I think that’s what this is for initially.
