I don’t like to build up a long history of internet activity anywhere. Blogs, websites, social media accounts, I start to feel burdened by them after a while. I get a buzz out of wiping them clean and walking away actually.. only to inevitably return and start adding to the pile again.

What brings me back this time? Mostly, it’s that I started using Emacs again, enjoying the simplicity of plain text. Feeling like someone who writes, thinks, can fiddle around with some basic code. I suppose we all have the impulse to share our stuff somewhere, but I’m dissatisfied with most platforms. None of them are perfect.. Bluesky , Mastodon , Bear Blog - all reasonable options, depending on tastes, but I’m of the growing opinion we should all try and carve out our own little corners of the internet. It’s surprisingly simple and inexpensive (can be free actually 😉) to spin up a static site generator and turn your local markdown files into a basic website.

I do keep my own notes and writings in a system of sorts. I’ve always got my own files offline, and often ponder over what should be kept in personal knowledge management and what could be public. On the one hand; I quite like the idea of having a digital garden or wiki of sorts. At other times, maybe I just want a place to shit post and do whatever I like? I probably shouldn’t over think it and It doesn’t matter all that much. Write for the sake of writing, post for the sake of posting. Our minds, tastes and opinions change all the time. Thoughts recorded on the internet can feel almost epitaphic, but don’t be set in stone, stay fluid.
